Audio course Part 1: Basic Basics

Audio KB Website

This 3-hour course is for people looking to get started in audio and provides an overview of the basics of audio technology. We define such terms as symmetric/asymmetric, decibel, bit depth and sampling frequency and shed some light on audio cabling in general.

Using the devices available for rent in the Culture Office, we look at phantom power, M/S and X/Y, various recording formats and much more besides. Which microphone is suitable for which purpose. Omnidirectional, cardiod or figure-eight – which polar pattern fits?

Both audio workshops are designed mainly for beginners. If you don't like the sound quality of your mobile phone or of the internal camera microphone, or if you aren't sure why the same TRS jack plug can be stereo/asymmetrical but also mono/symmetrical, or if you would like to attach a large diagram microphone via an audio interface to your computer, then get in touch!

The courses can be booked individually. You can bring your own equipment with you.
