Beginner Workshop: Field Recording & Microphones

12.10.2026
14:00–17:30

How does the city sound like through a geophone? What sounds does a hydrophone pick up underwater? And why do different microphones sound so distinct from one another? In this hands-on workshop, participants are introduced to the world of audio recording. Together, we explore various microphone types and recording techniques, experiment with specialized microphones, and capture sounds in public spaces. Afterward, we listen to the recordings, perform basic editing in Audacity, compare the results, and discuss their sonic characteristics.

The workshop is open to anyone - with or without prior experience - who is interested in the fundamentals of field recording.
