Many institutions are unsure about how to collaborate with artists with disabilities or chronic illnesses, especially since many disabilities are invisible.
For artists with disabilities or chronic illnesses themselves, it is not easy to communicate their accessibility needs.
However, for a successful collaboration, it is important that these needs are known and addressed.
The tool known as “Access Rider” supports this process.
In this workshop, institutions—as well as collectives and independent artists—will learn how to use it. It is aimed equally at cultural venues and at artists with disabilities or chronic illnesses who wish to work with it. This is a general introduction.
The final hour of the workshop is aimed at institutions, venues, groups, and cultural spaces that want to work with an Access Rider and addresses initial practical questions about it.
In a second workshop on January 8, 2027, artists with disabilities and chronic illnesses will have the opportunity to work on their own Access Rider in a safe space and exchange ideas with others about how to use it.
To participate in the second workshop, participants must identify as a person with a disability or chronic illness working in the cultural sector and must have either attended the first workshop or have prior knowledge or experience with Access Riders.
